03/29/2007-04/15/2007 A few members of the ensemble played preshow music for "The Good Woman of Setzuan", a play put on by The Rogue Theatre in Tucson. We are excited about this opportunity to play. It looks to be a great time to introduce people to Chinese Traditional music.
It was an interesting 12 shows that we performed for. The intent of our preshow music was to provide background music and to set the mood of being in China for the play. We interacted with the audience, introducing the songs as well as instruments to them. We also talked about how music has traditionally been consumed in China in Tea Houses with people talking and the performance not being the focus, but rather part of the ambiance of the tea house. So we encouraged them to continue talking with their friends and with the cast members while we played.
You can find a few pictures in our gallery. Also, you can find video of us playing in our videos page.
03/29/2007 Our ensemble has been invited to play an orchestrated version of Cai Yun Zhui Yue with the Harp Fusion harp group as part of their Cosmos Concert. The concert starts at 7:30pm at Crowder Hall, School of Music at the University of Arizona. The flyer with more information can be found here.
The performance went really well. I think the arrangement of Cai Yun Zhui Yue that Jennifer did for Harp and Chinese ensemble was very well done. She left the focus on the Chinese ensemble, with the harps somewhat in the background. Combined with having us in front of the harps, it all came together very nicely. You can find a few pictures in our gallery.

We were well received by the Symphony patrons at each performance. It was a great opportunity to share Chinese music with the people from Tucson. Many of them had never heard Chinese traditional music before. We gave out flyers with information about each of the instruments we were playing. People were especially interested in the Chinese musical notation, as well as the different aspects of each of the instruments that we were playing. It seemed like people especially enjoyed being able to get up close and see the instruments that were making the music they heard.
